John Daub, creator and producer of ONLY in JAPAN visited MUGAN on location at Tokyo Tower Saturday morning July 24th Japan time (Friday evening U.S. time) and did a live stream on his “ONLY in JAPAN * GO” YouTube channel including his real-time reaction as he experienced the MUGAN haunted house attraction.

John was joined by award-winning horror director, Pablo Absento (JHorrorQueen – see bio below), Vanten CEO, Neil van Wouw, and the creator of MUGAN himself, Amazing JIRO.

Pablo Absento Profile

Pablo Absento is an award winning director living in Tokyo.

Absento has directed several shorts, that announced the arrival of an exciting new voice to the J-horror genre. Her films are dark Japanese ghost stories, seen through the eyes of a foreigner living in Japan. Her unique style of filmmaking has earned her the unofficial title of “J-Horror Queen”.

Her first short CALL MY NAME won numerous awards, including Best Short Horror at the Germany After Dark Film Festival.

In 2015 Pablo directed SHI, which became a festival favorite, winning awards worldwide. The film was released by CRYPT TV, gathering more than seven million views and received accolades from horror masters GUILLERMO DEL TORO and ELI ROTH.

This year Pablo Absento shot several episodes for “SMA HORROR” (which stands for “smartphone horror”) – the vertical format horror series produced by the director and creator of the iconic franchise “Ju-on”/”The Grudge” TAKASHI SHIMIZU.

Pablo’s episodes are to be released in August 2021.

Pablo is also in the process of developing her first feature film with the TIMUR BEKMAMBETOV studio Bazelevs.
